Karen J. Pazzani

Ms. Pazzani represents and counsels employers in a broad range of employment law matters.  She has successfully defended employers against single and multi-plaintiff employment lawsuits, including defending employers against claims for wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and failure to provide leaves and accommodations.  Ms. Pazzani also advises and represents clients regarding Title IX issues, including representing colleges and universities during investigations by the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, into complaints lodged by students regarding the handling of alleged sexual misconduct and/or sexual violence incidents, as well as representing universities in Title IX litigation.  Ms. Pazzani also has experience defending employers against meal and rest break claims, failure to pay overtime claims, and misclassification claims.  Ms. Pazzani has extensive experience representing employers in state and federal court and before various administrative agencies, including the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. 

Ms. Pazzani also regularly advises employers on a wide range of employment issues, including hiring and firing employees, employee compensation, commission plans, the interactive process and disability accommodations, leaves of absence, and developing and revising employee handbooks and policies.

Ms. Pazzani was recently named a Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2017 in the field of defense-side employment litigation, a distinction awarded only to the top 2.5% of attorneys after a careful research and peer evaluation process. This is the second consecutive year that she has received such recognition.

Ms. Pazzani received her law degree from the UCLA School of Law in 2007.  During law school, Ms. Pazzani served as an extern to the Honorable Alex Kozinski, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the College of William and Mary, where she graduated magna cum laude. Prior to joining Young & Zinn, Ms. Pazzani practiced employment law at a large international law firm.
